Synopsis
At Pak Khlong Talat, in a community located along a canal on the outskirts of Bangkok—borrowing the real name “Pak Khlong Talat”—this land originally belonged to Khun Manorom, a kind and generous man who allowed poor residents to rent the land for housing and livelihood for many years.
Before his death, all of his inheritance passed to his only daughter, Khunying Phakpring. However, his will clearly stated that the land at Pak Khlong Talat must never be sold, and that the poor residents should be allowed to continue living there.
Khunying Phakpring, besides inheriting great wealth from her father, also runs many businesses. She is extremely frugal and endlessly driven by greed—traits completely unlike her father’s. Because of this, the people in the community do not like her, but they are powerless since she owns the land.
Despite the restriction in the will, Khunying Phakpring constantly thinks that while selling the land is forbidden, making changes to it is not. She plans to evict the residents and redevelop the land into something far more profitable.
Tawin, her only son, went to study in the United States after his father’s death and earned a master’s degree before returning to Thailand. Khunying Phakpring hopes he will take over her business. Tawin, however, knows little about his mother’s true nature—he simply believes she is kind and loves him deeply.
Som is a lively and mischievous young woman, beautiful and born in this very community. She has grown up seeing everything and knows everyone there. Her mother is a flower vendor, and her father, Sergeant San, is an honest and kind-hearted policeman who always helps others—especially with repair work—though he is often unsuccessful.
Som is currently a second-year student at a Rajabhat institute. When she learns of Khunying Phakpring’s plan to evict the residents and build apartments, she strongly opposes it and begins gathering support to resist the plan in every way possible.
After returning to Thailand, Tawin is assigned by his mother to oversee the apartment construction project, which gives him the chance to meet Som. Som immediately dislikes him, knowing he is being used to carry out the eviction. On the other hand, Tawin is drawn to Som—finding her charming, capable, and independent—but he cannot understand why she refuses to get along with him.
Meanwhile, Ple, the attractive and stylish daughter of Seng, a stingy shop owner who runs the largest grocery store in the community, has fallen in love with Tawin and constantly tries to get close to him.
At the same time, Jack, a local delinquent youth, is secretly in love with Som and grows increasingly jealous of Tawin, who always seems to treat her well.
